As part of the 5030Remember project, the online conference explored how remembrance can act as a catalyst for revitalizing democracy in Europe. Bringing together 155 citizens and human rights experts from ten different countries, the event created a space for reflection, dialogue, and critical engagement with the past and its relevance to today's democratic challenges.
The conference began on December 10th, the International Human Rights Day, and unfolded over the course of a week with a blend of asynchronous activities and live sessions. Participants examined themes such as totalitarian regimes, the transition to democracy, and the rise of populism in Europe, culminating in expert-led discussions on how memory can inform and strengthen democratic values today.
